House Rewire
What is a House Rewire? and How is it carried out?
An electrical house rewire is a process where the electrical wiring system within a home is replaced.
This process involves removing old wiring and installing new wiring to ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the electrical system.
Electrical rewiring is typically done in older homes where the existing wiring may be outdated, damaged, or unsafe. It can also be necessary when renovating or remodeling a property to meet modern electrical regulations and standards.
House electrical rewiring involves assessing the existing system, planning the project, and preparing the space. Old wiring is removed, and new wiring is installed according to regulations.
The system is thoroughly tested and inspected for safety and functionality. Once complete, electrical certificates and building control compliance certificates will then be issued. Finally if instructed, any disruptions to the building's structure are repaired, restoring its appearance.
What to Expect?
- Hopefully at this point you have boxed up all of your smaller belongings (we can get a home moving team to help with this if required)
- Next we move the larger furniture to make space to take up carpets and floorboards
- Next up running cables around the house (usually starting on the top floor) this is also when loft access is important!
- Sometimes, but not always we can run the new cables in the old conduit to save damage to the walls
- Chasing of sockets, switches and cables
- We do this upstairs and downstairs, a floor at a time
- At this point we can arrange for a plasterer to patch the walls
- We will clean up and remove any rubble
- Floorboards and carpets can start to be laid back down now
- Now we start to install all of your new lighting, switches and sockets
- The final stage is to install your new fuseboard to the latest regulations and test all of your new circuits
- On completion your electrical installation certificate and building regulation certificate will be sent across by email
How long does a House Rewire take?
The average rewire takes around 5-7 days.
Will the Power be shut OFF?
At some points yes, but we will never leave you with no power at all.
How to Prepare?
Clear as much furniture as possible, preferably into the middle of the room and cover with dust sheets.
Pack all small belongings into boxes and clear spaces in the loft space for access.
We will need to lift some floor boards so lifting carpets will be necessary at certain points.
Doing as much of this before we arrive saves us time. Rewires can be a messy job creating lots of dust and rubble. However we use specialist extraction equipment to reduce this.
If you have any pets its probably wise to consider removing them from the property during the work.
